Here are answers to a few common questions:

FAQ

Do you have a printed catalog?
No, this website is our only catalog. We are able to keep our prices low because BdM is exclusively an online company.

Do you accept phone or fax orders?
No, we only accept orders placed on our website. It saves time, and it also means that we don't need to hire additional employees to manually transcribe orders. This translates into significantly greater savings for our customers.

What is "interchangeable" jewelry?
Interchangeable jewelry is our term for jewelry and beads that can be mixed and matched without the use of tools. It's simple, economical, and fun!

I'm going to be in the Seattle area soon. Do you have a walk-in store I can visit?
We are a warehouse only, and unfortunately we are not set up to handle visitors. Sorry!

Yikes, why is my silver jewelry changing colors?
Tarnishing occurs when silver is exposed to air, moisture, certain chemicals, or oils. The more textured a silver item is, the faster it will tarnish. You can slow the process by storing your jewelry in an airtight container, and also by avoiding contact with things like hairspray and lotion. Eventually, all silver will tarnish. Most general retail stores sell a variety of silver polishing cloths, creams and liquids to remove tarnish. Any of these will work well on smooth, polished silver (toothpaste also works in a pinch). To clean chains or textured items like our Stardust beads, we recommend using a liquid tarnish remover like Tarn-X.

What the heck is a millimeter, and how does it compare to an inch?
A millimeter is much smaller than an inch, and is therefore easier to use when measuring small items like beads and jewelry. Please see the above chart for a size comparison.

What does Beads du Monde mean, anyway?
Beads du Monde means "Beads of the World" in French. Monde rhymes with fond (it's not pronounced MON-day).

An item's price is listed on your website as $1.15, 5@$3.35, 20@$7.40, 200@$66.00. What does this mean? The first price, $1.15, is the cost of a single bead. The next price break, 5@$3.35, means that if you order five or more beads, the cost per bead goes down to $0.67 (or $3.35 divided by 5). If you order twenty or more beads, the cost per bead is only $0.37 (or $7.40 divided by 20). And so on. We offer this bulk pricing system instead of having a wholesale program with order minimums.
Where can I find your shipping and return policies?
Our shipping and return policies can be found in the About Us section at the top of our website.

I'm ordering some beads and need to have them before an event next week. Which shipping method should I choose to ensure that I will receive them in time?
If you need to receive your order by a certain date, we highly recommend choosing 2 Day shipping or faster unless you are placing the order at least 2 weeks in advance. Better safe than sorry! This is especially true during the holiday season, when high package volume tends to cause slower delivery times. Ground shipping has no guaranteed delivery date. A faster shipping method costs a little more, but the security of knowing that your package will arrive in time is worth it. Please mention any deadlines in the comments section of your order and we will do our best to expedite the processing, if necessary.

I see that the price per bead is substantially lower if I order five or more beads in this particular size and style. Do they all need to be the same color?
Yes, they all need to be the same color in order for the price break to apply. For example, the price for most 8mm Cat's Eye Glossy Fireballs is listed as $1.15, 5@$3.35, 20@$7.40, 200@$66.00. If you order two in Pink and three in Royal, your total will be $5.75, or $1.15 per bead. However, if you order five in Pink, your total will be $3.35, or $0.67 per bead.

I've been adding items to my shopping cart, but when I view my shopping cart it's empty! What's the problem?
It sounds like you have cookies disabled in your browser, and our shopping cart requires cookies in order to save items. To lower your browser's security settings, go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Privacy in the Internet Explorer task menu and adjust the bar.

How do I track my BdM order?
Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email containing your UPS tracking number or USPS delivery confirmation number. Please note: USPS delivery confirmation is NOT the same as tracking, and does not tell you what day your package shipped, where it is now or when it will be delivered. It is only scanned upon delivery. You can track your UPS packages using your email address and order number at this link.
