Since its discovery in 1868 by Henry How of Nova Scotia, dyed howlite has been sold extensively as an affordable substitute for turquoise and lapis lazuli. Howlite forms geologically in nodules that appear like crystal faces. Unique veins of black, grey and white are interlaced throughout the nodules, adding to the stone’s character. Howlite accepts a fine polish and its porcelain luster enhances even undyed beads.
All BdM dyed beads are permanently stabilized.
Metaphysical opinions about howlite: the stone breeds creativity, facilitates awareness, encourages emotional expression and assists in the elimination of pain and stress.
8mm beads have 2.5mm holes; 10, 12, 14mm have 3.0mm holes.
